Lauterbrunnen Valley

Lauterbrunnen was possibly the most magical town we visited. Nestled up under some of Europe's most famous mountains, with waterfalls leaping down the steep valley walls, and cog trains patiently climbing back up. We sat on our balcony eating pastries trying to think of was to verify if we were awake or dreaming.

Our favorite part was watching the cog trains slowly make their way up and down the mountain after night fell. The little strings of lights climb at a seemingly impossibly steep angle.

Mac & cheese & applesauce

Martin, our ever wise guide, recommended a particular cafe halfway up the mountainside. We stopped in and ordered the last slice of the most amazing apricot tart (I'm still dreaming about it). He also suggested ordering the local specialty Älplermagrone, which is similar to macaroni and cheese, but comes with a serving of applesauce.

We noticed this waterfall from our hotel balcony. We decided to investigate and after a short hike captured this view of the valley from behind the falls.
